Stable Communities We must expand opportunities for home ownership, affordable rentals, and co-op conversions if we are going to keep our communities intact. We can provide resources for new housing, while enabling residents who are invested in their communities to stay in their homes and benefit from the growing investment in the district.

Small Business Prosperity Our local businesses are the economic engine of our communities. Fair Immigration Policy I support enforcing compassionate and fair immigration laws and creating a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and their families.  This country is a nation of immigrants and we must continue to be open to those who seek legal paths to residency and citizenship. Healthcare Access I support the continued reinvention (The recent legislation was a start but there is more work to do) of America’s Healthcare system so that everyone ultimately has access to quality care at an affordable cost. I believe that healthcare is a right and that every American is entitled to quality healthcare. I am also committed to reducing fraud, eliminating waste and better managing costs. Cultural Development I believe cultural development is our most under-utilized resource and a great asset for Upper Manhattan. Affordable Housing It is impossible to build a stable community if an ever-growing number of people can no longer afford to live there. Therefore, we must expand opportunities for home ownership, affordable rentals and co-op conversions. Superior Education We must provide the best learning experiences from pre-school through high school. In addition, we need more options for affordable childcare and daycare. I will support new funding for programs that keep kids learning, addresses the alarming drop-out rate and increases the number attending college. Smart Commercial Development The industry of Upper Manhattan is our culture. I support new projects with a cultural focus, the potential to create jobs and sponsors who are willing to work with the community.  Development will continue to change the landscape of Upper Manhattan but it does not have to be at odds with community building.  We can all benefit from development if we have a plan that follows specific guidelines and enforces specific hiring and inclusion requirements. Expanded Senior Services With the growing number of seniors in the district I am fully committed to expanding services for our elders to help them lead comfortable and healthy lives.  Seniors are one of the fastest growing segments in our district so we must plan ahead to provide for our elders.

Youth Engagement We must motivate young people to get involved in their communities and inspire a new generation of leaders.   Too many of our young people are choosing to drop out of school and we must fund programs that keeps them in school, helps them earn a GED and gets them active and involved.  As a high school drop out myself I know how hard it is to turn it around but with support I was able to do it and I want to give that same help to others.

LGBT Rights It’s long overdue for same sex couples to have their relationships recognized legally in every state and be afforded the same rights, privileges and respect of any married couple.  Discrimination in any form should not be tolerated and I view it as the most important civil rights issue of our time.  I support Marriage equality NOW! Reproductive Rights I unequivocally support a woman’s right to choose and will fight to ensure that any threat to those rights are vigorously challenged.  I will never support the notion that a woman cannot make decisions about her body or her life without interference from those who seek to limit her legal rights.

Campaign Finance Reform/Term Limits I support fundamental changes to our system of electing members of the House of Representatives. There is far too much emphasis placed on money and too little on relevant issues and work.   This promotes unfair influence for lobbyists and others who manipulate the system.  I also support a reasonable limit to the number of terms representatives can remain in office.  Our country needs a Congress that promotes work over seniority.
